The construction of Mariposa Food Co-op‘s new store is complete. The new store at 4824 Baltimore Avenue is officially opening this Saturday, March 17 at 10 a.m. There were a few bumps on the road, but the final result looks to be worth it. The new store includes a beautiful produce section, meats, cheeses and lots of packaged and bulk foods. For the first time in the Co-op’s 40-year history it will also be open to non-members, though members (working and non-working) get a nice discount on everything they buy and some other sweet perks.
Project manager Bull Gervasi was kind enough to accompany us on a video tour of the new digs so that you can see for yourself what has been achieved by a group of dedicated Mariposa staff, members and volunteers. To join Mariposa, visit: http://www.mariposa.coop/?page_id=27.

The grand opening is tomorrow but the soft opening was yesterday and today. Which means they’re actually open, I just walked in and shopped last night. It’s gorgeous! Besides the abundance of fresh, organic foods, natural cleaning products, spices, teas, and all sorts of goodies, it’s a wonderfully well-designed space that really brings out the grand historic details of the old bank. The countertops are marble, repurposed from the former entryway. And don’t miss the bank vault door frame in the bathroom. I am so glad this happened, what a bonus for our neighborhood!

I’m really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a great blog like this one nowadays..

It is important to slow down and think about food as nourishment rather than just something to gulp down in between meetings or on the way to pick up the kids. Rather than worry about following a fad diet, think about your health and your lifestyle instead. Start by learning which foods are good for you.

I’ve been in three times now and twice I have had less than stellar experiences with customer service. I live off of B-more ave and I love to see new shops open in our area. I am willing to pay more for convenience and quality. However, bad customer service is a deal breaker for me and I will not be back.

@West Phily [sic] Resident, First Mariposa has been in West Philly longer than you have; the ‘new shop’ is a relocation from a couple of blocks east.
Secondly, I would like to know where on Baltimore Avenue you receive what you deem to be ‘stellar’ service. What does that entail? I am genuinely curious.
