Patrick McCaslin and Gabriela Cejas, juniors at Springfield Township High School (a suburb next to Philadelphia), peer tutors, and passionate about writing, are holding a free, week long, writing workshop for students in grades 7 – 9. The course will run from June 22 to June 28 and be hosted through Google Meet or Zoom.

The course aims to help kids better understand the writing process and produce organized, clear, strong writing. It will be conducted through three presentations (one as an intro and to learn about prewriting, one to learn about drafting, and one to learn about editing). With these, there will be optional one on one sessions to help develop the skills we discuss. Through the week, the student would write a review of their favorite book, movie, album, etc. By writing this review, we’ll aim to help students become familiar and comfortable with prewriting, drafting, and editing their writing, as well as learning to incorporate evidence. Primarily, the focus will be on the development of a strong narrative voice that can be applied to any style of writing.
