Urgent foster care needed for locally rescued Mastiff/Pitbull

January 15, 2012

This sweet young Mastiff-Pit mix, captured Friday, after he’d been wandering the Kingsessing area for two weeks, is in immediate need of a foster home. He’s currently at ACCT shelter, and his 48-hr wait period is up today (Sunday, Jan. 15). He has no ID/chip and has not been claimed. The shelter, as always, is full, and the folks there say he is pretty down and they are anxious for him to be placed in foster care. His rescuer spent quite a bit of time with him on Friday and reports that he is an unbelievably good tempered, non-aggressive dog, and is either intimidated by cats or friendly with them. He showed no aggressive tendencies from the temperament tests he did after he was captured. He was introduced to some kids at the shelter on Friday and was very tolerant of them pulling on his tail and ears, prodding, etc.

He is thought to be about a year old, is unfixed (but will be fixed by ACCT and vaccinated if foster home is secured).

Anyone interested in providing foster care for this pooch, until a permanent home is found, should contact ACCT immediately. His shelter name is Tyson, ID# A15033714. ACCT adoption hours are 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Mon – Fri, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sat & Sun. Contact numbers: 267-385-3806 or 267-385-3889. To request to foster, contact Lifesaving, open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. Best to email first: Jill Sweeney (JSweeney@PSPCA.org) and Natalie (NSmith@PSPCA.org).

I can vouch that this dog is unbelievably lovable. I met him right after he was found, and he met my dog as well. Very calm, and was not aggressive in any way. I hope he finds a home soon; he is very special and a keeper.

We also met Tyson on Friday, shortly after he was captured. We were quite taken by his gentle, quiet nature. Several people were surrounding him and petting him, which he tolerated completely. He was a little shy and probably very tired, having been on the streets for possibly weeks. I sat with him for a few minutes and held his BIG sweet face and gave him a kiss on the cheek, to which he was agreeable. Just a lovely, huggable guy, who deserves a loving home.

I’m told he’s spending some outside time with some of the other dogs at the shelter, but is very unhappy in his kennel there. 🙁 I so hope he finds a good foster mom or dad soon!!

Can you imagine the evil eye of your bifocaled cat lady neighbor when you adopt Tyson?
If that’s not incentive enough, I’ll buy your first TWO bags of dog food from the Baltimore Pet Shoppe!

And if given enough time, your neighbor will come to *love* the gentleness of Tyson as much as her cats. I can’t guarantee this though…;(

I am trying hard to find a person to go get Tyson if it is just to foster temporarily. I wanted to do it myself by I have an upcoming Florida trip and I am unsure if my two pit bulls would be so welcoming to Tyson. He really looks like a sweet boy and he tugs at my heart strings.. 🙁

For anyone who is interested in Tyson, he is doing really well with the other dogs at the shelter. He had a couple of play dates and he is a very happy when he is outside socializing. Tyson is available for foster or adoption. He is pretty unhappy in his kennel and looks kinda depressed. Please keep spreading the word about him. He will make someone an amazing companion. As always, acting sooner is always better than later.

My friend, Lisa, is coming to foster him tomorrow morning. She just also sent an email to the shelter. Yay!!!

That is awesome news! She might want to ask them for some dog food. They will give free food for foster parents. Good luck!
