Phase 1 of the Route 34 Track Renewal Project began this morning. Buses will replace the trolleys all the way from the 40th Street Portal to the end of the line at 61st Street until the completion of the project on September 1, 2012. Phase 1 will last until July 7 and will include the reconstruction of the tracks between 40th and 42nd streets. During this phase, the entire two-block area on Baltimore Avenue will be closed.
The “13th and Market” on the bus (see photo) is a little confusing. The bus will take you to the 40th Street Portal where you can catch trolley the rest of the way.
Phase 2, 3 and 4 are scheduled to take place between July 1 and September 1 and will involve track reconstruction and Baltimore Avenue closings between 49th and 52nd streets, 54th and 55th streets, and the intersection of 58th and Baltimore. All traffic, including buses, will be detoured around the construction sites and side streets in the construction area will be closed to through traffic. For more information and the schedule for each phase, go here.

I’ll admit i’m confused. I need to take the #34 tomorrow (Mon.) from 36th and Walnut to 50th and Balto. (and vice versa)
Can someone tell me how? Thank you in advance.

Pretty sure it means you’ll take the trolley one stop to the 40th Street portal and switch to the bus to continue westbound from there. Good luck! Definitely wondering myself how all this is going to work out.

PLEASE repave the bike lanes why you are at it, SEPTA.

thanks, Jay–can you believe this is the first time I’ve needed to go and come back during my lunch break on the trolley and it has to fall THIS week? I should’ve gotten it together last week, but I didn’t know…

The signs I saw today say you can take any trolley from Center City to the 40th street portal to transfer to the bus. Does that mean we need to ask for a transfer pass while we’re on the trolley? I assume that would be free, right?

@A Not any trolley. The 10 goes up Lancaster Ave. But any other trolley, yes. Should be free, no transfer necessary. Let us know if it’s not.

on a positive note, at least the temporary shuttle buses have bike racks on them. not sure if this helps anyone other than me (who goes from 53rd to 33rd) but on days like this when it’s going to reach 90+, I’ll take it.

Does anyone know if the shuttle buses have been running well in the evening? I work late, and often have to take the trolly from 30th at 1130ish to get back to our area. I know I can take the trolly to 40th, but are the shuttled buses running late? I’d rather not have to walk 10 blocks home alone at night that late….
