Police have released surveillance video of an apparent hit and run accident on 48th Street between Osage and Pine early Sunday morning and that left an unidentified 23-year-old woman critically injured. The video shows a taxicab with a large ad display on top and a dark stripe down the side, going very fast and dragging the victim along 48th Street shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday. The cab fled the scene.

The victim was found lying face down and unconscious on the street with apparent head trauma. Police reported yesterday that the victim had a brain injury and was in “very critical” condition. If you have any information about the incident please call 686-TIPS or email: tips@phillypolice.com.

it looks like maybe her coat or clothing was caught in the door and she fell and got hit? (purely speculation, after watching the video). this is so terrible. hoping she makes a recovery.

the cab looks like a PHL Taxi, they have a brown stripe and a white swoop logo on the door.

i’m just speculating here but if this guy is like any of the other cabbies i’ve encountered in the city, he was probably too busy talking on the phone to notice a woman being dragged behind his cab.

The NBC story was updated to say that police brought in a “person of interest”, a taxi driver, for questioning. No charges yet. Can’t find anything on the condition of the young woman.

Still in critical condition but making little improvements daily! Please continue to pray!! -coming from a close friend

In a related note, living on 45th I’ve noticed many aggressive drivers going way too fast for a residential area. Last night near Larchwood someone in a silver Volvo station wagon hit their horn non stop as a moving truck wasn’t quick enough, waking up the entire neighborhood due to their self serving impatience. I really wish the police would pay more attention to this issue through issuing tickets/enforcement instead of waiting for a tragedy to happen

May i hear from A, her close friend, about her needs right now? I’d like to deliver food or otherwise assist in any way deemed helpful. I sustained a TBI from an attack on street two blocks from that location three years ago. I Feel for her, and see the ugly and multiple crimes here. Hoping ffor her recovery, and that police will find the criminal.

William, i feel like the police could finance the entire city budget if they would start ticketing moving violations.
