A fully stocked vape shop has come to Baltimore Avenue.
Love Vape University City opened earlier this month at 4714 Baltimore Ave., the former home of the Talking Headz salon.
“It was a good spot,” said Stephanie Ngo, one of three employees on hand when we visited on Saturday. “There’s a little bit of night life here.”
“Vaping” is the slang term for the “smoking” of e-cigarettes, which turn special flavored liquids (sometimes with a bit of nicotine) into vapors through the use of a battery powered device.
The new shop, which is one of four Love Vape locations around the city, is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

UCD doesn’t pick up my trash, or walk me home at night, I would never ask them to erase any graffiti in my neighbourhood, so I don’t really see the need to say much about their claim of “ownership” (or something) of my block, just because they offer privatised and consolidated services, most of which don’t apply to me, and which I’m not even civically responsible for. not that my individual experience perception matters too much in defining areas of aggressive gentrification, but really, who in our neighbourhood really refers to the area this far down Baltimore as University City, and not West Philly or Cedar Park?

I mean is it really so horrendous to wonder (maybe even collectively, perish the thought) about who’s naming the places in which we’re actually living? as long as the process is ongoing, and principles are still contested, is it really so passĂ© to talk about? is your socio-political outrage-du-jour better than mine?

The short answer is that Love Vape chose to identify this location as their University City location. I would say that the people paying rent and city taxes get to call their business whatever they decide.

The whole gentrification concept and how it affects our community is certainly worth thoughtful and respectful dialogue. I’m just guessing that people’s reaction is based on the fact that this discussion has been historically beaten to death and trolled on this site. Trolls, by their nature, anonymously post the outrageously offensive and then disappear. You obviously are not that. Perhaps people are just weary. Just a thought.

2. I hypothesize gentrification.
3. I research Wikipedia.
4. I test hypothesis by eating a Subway sandwich.
5. I analyze and cherry pick results that would make the weirdest ice cream flavor.
6. I publish my findings through graffiti and local blog.
