I surely love walking down the sidewalk after these guys have ridden by, to find a pile of horse poop.

horse poop – the least offensive of all animal poops. It’s like 97% hay. Just enjoy the clipclopping and all the lovely quirks of living in West Philly.

also that WSJ spread is behind a paywall, sadly.

@mds chill – they’re not just hanging around being quirky. They set up near the playground to charge for rides, don’t clean up after themselves, and don’t have a permit. I’m not saying they should be kicked out or anything but it’d be nice if they’d play by the rules that food trucks, uhuru, farmers market, and other vendors do. The permit fees go to parks & rec and help pay for upkeep throughout city parks. Cleaning up the horse poop would just be a nice thing to do, especially since they’re stationed right next to a playground.

They should be required to have insurance if they are charging kids for rides. I shudder to think what might happen if a child fell off or the horse became alarmed.

All west Philly residents should clean up after their animals horses or dogs. Th amount of dog poop on the side walk is ridiculous, since a lot of people consider their pets their babies,I’m pretty sure it would be unpleasant for me to leave my human babies feces laying around in the neighborhood and so do everyone the same courtesy parents do and clean up after yours!!

I think this group needs to be followed a bit more closely. I’ve heard stories over the years of kids/adults falling off of the horses, I’ve seen horses walking in between stalls at various fairs, not paying attention to the actual flow of foot traffic. I and my children have had to get out of the way and stand in the street so we could let horses pass… On the sidewalk. Like everyone else has said, I don’t mind the horses if they following the actual laws and have proper insurance and permits.
