Gunpoint robberies on S. 50th Street

Police arrested two young men, both West Philly residents, in South Philadelphia on Thursday for a robbery similar to the robberies on S. 50th Street on Sept. 23. Police were able to retrieve one of the two bicycles stolen from a porch near 45th and Locust Streets on Sept. 28 based on the bike’s description and arrested one suspect, according to the information provided by the bike owner. The arrested suspect was reportedly charged with theft and possession of stolen items. By the way, the two bikes were locked and the surveillance video shows the it took seven minutes to cut the lock off. We also received an attempted bike theft report from a reader who lives near 48th and Baltimore. She says that she came home Sunday night at 8 p.m. and discovered three young kids (around 8-12 years old) trying to steal her bike and bike parts off her front porch. The bike was double locked, but the kids had tools and were trying to take it apart, according to the reader. She says she screamed at them and they ran away.

They recovered “bicycles that were used in the robberies.” Guess no one in the house thought it suspicious that a 14-year-old had multiple bikes. On second thought …. where are his parents/guardians/accomplices?
