A 19-year-old man was shot and killed near 52nd and Locust in the latest of a series of violent incidents in that area in the past few weeks.
Police say the unidentified man was shot at about 2:50 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he died at about 3:30 p.m.
No arrests have been made and no weapon was recovered, police said.
Two men were shot during separate shootouts near the same intersection three weeks ago. No arrests were made in those shootings.

Why does it say no arrests were made when I personally seen a boy in handcuffs and they escorted him to the back of the van?

Great question @Neighbor. We asked police and here is what they said:
“Could be multiple things. Handcuffs don’t always mean arrest. Could be a combative witness.”
We’re still checking.

While you’re asking about that Mike can you ask what has led to the violence in that area specifically? Since the summer we’ve had three non-fatal shootings, two cars that ended up on or near that block after being involved in violent crimes and including this one, two murders. One of the murders of the Drexel grad has a suspect in custody and isn’t related to the rest, but it’s made what once seemed like a safe, quiet and rapidly gentrifying area (for both good and bad) seems as though it’s regressed and become unsafe. Two of these shootings took place in broad daylight. Although I do see postings on here sometimes after these reports, it seems as though the community is fairly blase about it. I’m not and would love to find out some answers. I could not make the last PD meeting but will certainly try to make the next. In the meantime is there any sense that anything is being done? This is an escalation and has not been the norm, so what gives?
