A few community meetings will be held this week – in the Spruce Hill and Walnut Hill neighborhoods – where residents can learn more and ask questions about public safety, development projects, and other important issues.
Two meetings are scheduled at Spruce Hill Community Association’s office at 257 S. 45th St this week:
• SHCA Board Meeting will take place tonight (Tuesday, Apr. 12) at 7:30 p.m., and the guest speaker is Jess Hinchey, a volunteer coordinator at Refugee Corps.
• SHCA Zoning meeting is on Wednesday, Apr. 13, and has the following agenda:
6:30 p.m. – Final review of expansion plans for Makkah Market at 4249 Walnut Street. This case was first heard in late 2015.
7:00 p.m. – Proposed 21-unit apartment building at 46th and Spruce (4534-36 Spruce) – first discussed in general terms at a meeting in 2015 and then heard earlier this year in an official RCO meeting (SHCA is the Registered Community Organization (RCO) for the area). This will be a second RCO meeting to review revisions made by the applicants in response to the earlier meeting in March (pictured right).
On Thursday, Apr. 14, Walnut Hill residents and all interested individuals are invited to The Enterprise Center (4548 Market St) for a community meeting about public safety. The meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m., is organized by the Enterprise Center CDC’s Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC). At this meeting, residents will hear updates on neighborhood crime and safety from representatives from the 18th Police District, the University of Pennsylvania Police, and the Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia. Attendees are welcome to give feedback on community safety issues, and learn how you can help keep yourself and your community safe.
