The 2017 “Love Your Park” week kicks off on Saturday, May 13 with a Spring Service Day, and many residents have already registered to help clean up and beautify parks across the city. A lot more volunteers are needed. Here are some volunteer opportunities available in West Philadelphia:
Cedar Park
When: 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Where: S. 49th & Catharine Sts
What: Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Help is needed planting annuals and perennials as well as pruning garden bushes. (On May 19 from 6-8 p.m., join Cedar Park Neighbors for a Bring Your Own Picnic in the park)

Concourse Lake Native Plant Park
When: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: S Concourse Dr and Belmont, West Fairmount Park
What: Join other volunteers for a clean up: refreshments will be provided.
Register to volunteer.
Malcolm X Memorial Park
When: 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
Where: 51st and Pine
What: Help clean up the park. Refreshments will be provided. (Stop by on May 20 from 12-5 p.m. for the park’s annual community fair featuring food, fun activities, and more.)

Shofuso Japanese House and Garden
When: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: Lansdowne & Horticultural Drives, West Fairmount Park
What: Join Global Citizen, in partnership with the Fairmount Park Conservancy and the Philadelphia Department of Parks & Recreation, for a cleanup of Shofuso Japanese House and Garden. Volunteer responsibilities include leaf raking, weeding, mulching, and gardening. Work gloves will be provided. For more information and to register, click here.
