Overnight work scheduled for 40th Street beginning this Monday

July 30, 2018

The Citywide Street Resurfacing project continues in West Philadelphia with overnight street improvement work now being scheduled along 40th Street. The work will begin tonight at 7 p.m. and will include temporary street closures and parking restrictions in the area. The work is expected to be completed by late August, but weather or special events in the area may alter the work schedule, according to an announcement by the Streets Department.

The contractor, James J. Anderson Construction Co, Inc., will perform resurfacing on 40th Street from Girard Avenue to Market Street and from Walnut Street to Baltimore Avenue.

Street resurfacing will be completed in three separate phases – street milling, the adjustment of manhole covers and resetting of utility boxes, and final paving – which will take place in separate activities over the course of the next several weeks. Most work will be performed during the overnight hours between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., but some operations, like adjusting manhole covers and resetting utility boxes, will be scheduled during the day between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Residents should expect parking restrictions and traffic delays in the area during the project. Temporary ‘No Parking’ signs will be posted in advance of each scheduled activity. Residents are urged to move their cars from the work areas when the signs are posted, so that vehicles are not towed. If your car is towed, please contact your local Police District to find its location.
