Drexel to expand Dornsife Center, seeking community input

September 24, 2018

Drexel University has recently purchased the West Philadelphia Community Center (WPCC) at 35th and Haverford and is planning to use it for expansion of their Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships, the neighborhood resource center serving Powelton and Mantua residents. The newly acquired facility will allow Drexel to bring more programming to local communities.

WPCC is a two-story 37,000 sq. foot facility located at 3512 Haverford Avenue. Prior to the purchase of the building by Drexel, it was owned and operated by Caring People Alliance (CPA). CPA will be moving to another location, according to reports.

On Saturday, Drexel held a community open house at the building and is also gathering input from community members on how the facility should be used.

On Thursday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., everyone is invited to discuss the future of the WPCC building as an extension of the Dornsife Center. Childcare will be provided and food will be served.

The Dornsife Center hosts a variety of free classes, workshops and clinics for neighborhood residents, such as computer and technology training, business, health and wellness, cooking, dance, and many more. For more information on current offerings, go here.
