West Philly’s Curio Theatre Company has received a lot of scholarship applications for their 2019 Summer Camp Program, which will be held in two two-week sessions next month (July 1-12 and July 15-26).

“Interest and enrollment for Curio Theatre Company’s 2019 Summer Camp has far surpassed our expectations,” reads an email newsletter sent out by Curio. “More kids than ever have asked for scholarship assistance to attend Summer Camp 2019.”

Curio has never turned away a student for financial reasons, but the theatre needs support from the community to keep providing affordable theatre education to local children and youth. Curio has launched an education appeal and now until July 1 is accepting donations online. By contributing, community members are directly funding theatre education for a kid in Philadelphia who can’t afford Summer Camp 2019.

Also, this Friday and Saturday (June 14-15), the CuriosiTeens! are putting on their annual show. This year they’re presenting The Crucible by Arthur Miller on Curio’s main stage at 48th and Baltimore. This is pay-what-you-want admission, with suggested donation of $15. Tonight’s show is at 7:30 p.m., and there are two shows on Saturday: at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The CuriosiTeens! program is currently comprised of 19 teenage theatre artists (from 12-17 years old), who are dedicated, hard-working, and passionate about the art of theatre-making.
