The highly anticipated restaurant serving authentic Mexican dishes, Don Barriga Mexican Grill, has opened at the corner of 45th and Spruce. It was very short notice for the restaurant’s grand opening on Sunday (the owners announced it on Saturday evening), but it was enough for the locals to swarm the place with calls and orders, prompted in part by half-off prices for everything on Sunday. The crowds forced Don Barriga to close for a few hours in the afternoon. One of the partners apologized on Facebook for some orders taking too long. “It was the grand opening and we were packed,” he wrote on our Facebook page. “We will improve every day.”
The restaurant offers dine-in, pick up and delivery options. In addition to traditional meat and seafood options, the restaurant offers a good variety of vegetarian items, from veggie tacos to veggie fajitas. So far, there are no vegan items on the menu, but hey, Honest Tom’s is just a block away.
Many people have asked for the menu since it’s not available online yet, so here it is (click to enlarge):
Don Barriga is open Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Call 267.292.5741 for more info and to place an order.

I’m not going to hold it against them for being busy on opening day. Unlike the TrollyStop disaster, I really want to go here soon. I wish them lots of luck!

Is it BYOB? Also if they don’t have a website how you order online?

I am so excited to try this place out! I needed a new local Mexican spot to replace Honest Tom’s after I stopped going there once they went meatless. Hopefully this place lives up to the hype!

@Arindam Basu: I don’t know if it’s official or anything but I overheard someone ask the waitress if the restaurant was BYOB and she said yes.

I’ve gone twice now, and the food is really amazing. They’re understandably going through some growing pains and figuring things out. I hope our community supports them through it, because this is a great addition to our collection of fine restaurants.
