During the school year, thousands of students in Philadelphia benefit from access to free and reduced price breakfast and lunch. But during the summer many struggle to get access to healthy meals.
This a reminder that the USDA provides free meals to children, teens, and students with disabilities in Philadelphia during summer months. This food is accessible at hundreds of summer meals sites throughout the city, including recreation centers, parks, churches, and neighborhood blocks. Summer meals sites provide free meals and snacks to kids and teens age 18 and under.
The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, the Mayor’s “Fun Safe Philly Summer” initiative and the School District of Philadelphia are partnering to spread the word about free summer meals.

Dozens of summer meals sites are operating this summer in West Philadelphia. One of these sites is West Philly’s first non-profit restaurant, EAT Café, located at 3820 Lancaster Ave. Although the EAT Café closed in April after two and a half years of operation as a restaurant, it is serving free lunches to youth Monday to Thursday until Aug. 22:
The EAT Cafe is hosting a free lunch for kids 18 and under all summer long. Join us Monday to Thursday from 11am-1pm for friends, fun, and food in the comfort of our beautiful Cafe space. #summermeals #philly #phillykids #freelunch @nokidhungry @SummerMealsNDS pic.twitter.com/J35I3GRINA
