Sanctuary Jam, a free jazz event this Sunday at St. Mary’s Church

October 31, 2019

Outdoor summer jazz is over until next year in West Philly, but jazz music lovers have a chance to enjoy their favorite music indoors. A free event, Sanctuary Jam, will be held this Sunday (Nov. 3) for the first time inside St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Hamilton Village (3916 Locust Walk).

The event is organized by the music departments of University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and The Jazz Sanctuary, who have partnered to bring the Sanctuary Jam to the public – free of any charges. Pizza and drinks will be also available free of charge.

The first set of jazz will be played by two instructors from Penn and two instructors from Drexel – lovingly called the Sanctuary Jam House Band. The second set will give the music students of both universities the opportunity to jam with the professionals.

This is a non sectarian event and the community is invited to hear great jazz and see the future jazz musicians.

The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Another Sanctuary Jam event is scheduled for Dec. 1, also from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
