“Getaway at the Greenhouse”, free tropical indoor oasis, returns this month to Fairmount Park

February 3, 2020

Gaia, a touring artwork by artist Luke Jerram, will be on display at the Horticulture Center during the Getaway at the Greenhouse event.

This February, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy and Constellation Culinary Group will transform the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center into “Getaway at the Greenhouse,” a pop-up indoor summer oasis. Back by popular demand from last year’s debut event, the Horticulture Center will offer art, food trucks, movies, live music and more for visitors of all ages.

Now extended to 16 days (through Sunday, Feb. 16), and with more free programming, this summertime-inspired series is a great way to warm up your winter. Programming for children includes an oversized indoor sandbox, arts and crafts, story time, live animals, and more. Adults can enjoy food trucks, pop-up bars, live music, happy hours, and more.

New for this year, Getaway at the Greenhouse will feature Gaia – a touring art installation by UK artist Luke Jerram. Measuring 10 feet in diameter, Gaia features detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface. The artwork provides the opportunity to see our planet on the same scale as astronauts, in three dimensions. In honor of Earth Day, Getaway at the Greenhouse will be celebrating the beauty and preservation of the planet.

Also new for this year, Philly PHLASH® free shuttle service will be departing to the event from Center City on Fridays and Saturdays every hour from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. This special shuttle loop will make stops at LOVE Park, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Please Touch Museum and the Horticulture Center every 30 minutes.
