Outdoor dining returns: Check out what West Philly restaurants are re-opening

June 12, 2020

Booker’s Restaurant is ready to welcome outdoor diners on Baltimore Avenue (Facebook photo).

Starting today, Philadelphia restaurants and cafes can re-open for outdoor dining as part of the City’s Phase 1 (Yellow) coronavirus re-opening plan.

Some West Philly restaurants that have outdoor seating have already announced their plans to re-open. For some, customers will have to reserve their table in advance, but for others, reservations are not required. All restaurants have to follow the City’s guidelines on how to serve customers safely during the COVID-19 pandemic, including limited seating, 6-foot distance between tables, wearing masks for both customers (unless they are seated) and staff.

Restaurants that don’t have an outdoor dining licence can request an application. Go here for more information.

Most restaurants don’t require reservations for outdoor dining, but at some places they are strongly recommended.

Here are some West Philly restaurants that have announced the re-opening of their outdoor dining service:

• Renata’s Kitchen (40th and Baltimore), reservations are strongly recommended (if they’re booked you can order meals and cocktails to go and enjoy them in the adjacent Trolley Portal Gardens). UPDATE: Renata’s Kitchen is also inviting folks for their first Happy Hour tonight, from 5-7 p.m.

Dahlak (47th and Baltimore), starting June 19th

Aksum (47th and Baltimore)

Dock Street West (50th and Baltimore)

Booker’s Restaurant & Bar (51st and Baltimore)

University City:

Sunset Social (Cira Green, 30th and Chestnut)

Tipsy Bistro (The Left Bank, 3131 Walnut St)

Landmark Americana (3333 Market St.)

Philadelphia Parks & Rec is also bringing back their outdoor pop-up beer garden, Parks on Tap, to West Fairmount Park this summer. The beer garden is opening at 4 p.m. today (Friday) at Fairmount Horticulture Center Arboretum (100 N. Horticultural Drive). The beer garden will be open Monday to Friday, from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 10:00 p.m. A free membership is required. Seating is first come, first served. For more information, including Parks on Tap safety plan and directions, please visit www.parksontap.com.
