Ethiopian cafe & mini market opens at 45th and Baltimore

October 5, 2020

The Ethiopian food scene is expanding in West Philly! A new coffee shop and small grocery store, Alif Brew & Mini Mart, has opened at the corner of 45th and Baltimore in the space formerly occupied by The Nesting House.

For breakfast and brunch, the cafe serves Ethiopian staple dishes, like Firfir, Chechebsa and Foul, and also invites guests for a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays (see picture and video below). Alif also offers Injera wraps (chicken, beef and vegetarian) as well as other appetizers. But you can also just stop by for a cup of coffee and a homemade pastry or grab-and-go salad!

In the store you can buy Ethiopian groceries and ingredients for making your own dishes, plus coffee and even traditional coffee making and drinking sets.

Alif Cafe & Mini Market is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

This is a great place- the people who run it are so nice. The food is very good, too. A very welcome addition to the neighborhood!

Tried a vegetarian injera wrap and hummus the other day – absolutely delicious! Excited to go back and try more options.
