The federal CARES Act permits taxpayers to deduct $300 in contributions to non-profit organizations in 2020. Several local non-profit and community organizations are holding year-end fundraisers, so there’s a chance to give back to your community by supporting neighborhood organizations with a tax-deductable donation.
Check out these messages from several local non-profits (to find more local non-profits, visit our Civic Life page):
The Woodlands Cemetery and Mansion (40th and Woodland):
“Outdoor spaces have become more critical than ever. Philadelphians seeking an escape this year became daily visitors. Give to The Woodlands and help us reach our $50,000 end of year fundraising goal and preserve this sacred space.”

Curio Theatre Company (48th and Baltimore):
“We’re at 88% of our annual goal. Consider donating to our 2020 Annual Appeal before the year is over so we can come back better than ever in the new year. Our goal is to raise $15,000 before 2020 ends. Here’s what we would like to work on in 2021, with your help:
• A Symphony for Saint-Georges, a multidisciplinary, ambulatory installation currently in the works
• Our youth troupe — the CuriosiTeens! — who meet year-round and typically produce a final, cumulative show
• Curio Theatre School and Curio Summer Camp, which provides theatre and art education to ANY kid who’s interested, regardless of financial situation
• CuriosiTix, our ticketing initiative that provides Pay What You Wish tickets for members of our community every year for our spring show!”

Bartram’s Garden (54th and Lindbergh):
“The Garden’s 50 acres have warmly welcomed more visitors than ever before this year. Support this beloved community greenspace and help us offer solace, beauty, and fun by making a gift today. This year, against all odds, we were able to facilitate dozens of programs (both virtual & socially-distanced), like the Cold & Flu Medicine Cabinet herbal remedy series with Nyambi Naturals. Make a gift today to help us continue this work in the new year!”

ACHIEVEability (35 N. 60th St):
“When you give people the tools and support they need to succeed, they can break the cycle of poverty and provide a more secure life for generations. We hope we can count on your support, give at http://achieveability.org. Take a look back at 2020:
People’s Emergency Center (PEC) (325 N 39th St):
“Over 48 years of service, it’s the smiles on the faces of the people we serve that matters. We applaud their resilience. Help us nurture families, empower youth, strengthen neighborhoods, and drive change at https://bit.ly/GivePECNow. Remember Sandra? She found an apartment she could afford and will be moving soon! Your donation today supports services that bolster the resilience of families like Sandra’s.”
Free Library of Philadelphia:
“Giving to the Free Library means giving back to your community. Make your tax deductible gift to the Free Library Fund before the end of the year! Support the Free Library and help ensure transformational programs are available well into the New Year.”
