I am outraged! The meeting has hit 100 max capacity. I tried to get on at 2 pm. There is no indication on the flyer that the meeting had LIMITED capacity. Anyone else not get in who wanted to?

  2. Cara Says:

My neighbors and I were very interested in participating in this meeting as we are extremely concerned about the safety of our community and have been quite unnerved about the uptick in these violent crimes. However, we ran into the same capacity problem. Please provide a summary of the meeting somewhere as we all want to help make our neighborhood safe. Thank you.

I tried multiple times from a little before 2 till well after. One time I got let in the waiting room for a while but nothing ever happened. What was the upshot of the meeting?

To those who could not get on this zoom meeting – the police said they only had the free version of Zoom and also had to use their own personal cell phones. This is so sad to me….the budgets are so tight that this key community communication (especially in this day and age!) has been compromised. I was lucky enough to get on, and it was great, but way too short. There were so many questions in the chat boxes, but they could only have 30 minutes on zoom, then it cut off (probably due to the free Zoom version). They did say they would try and schedule another one soon. And finally, ABC news was on the call and here is their story: https://6abc.com/police-uptick-in-armed-robberies-and-carjackings-in-university-city-/9691743/

    Thank you Nancy.

Reading the ABC report, sounds like the police caught the bandits.

If so, I am not sure I understand what was the purpose of the meeting? To report on that? Why not put out a statement instead? Or does ABC got it wrong?

In any case, crazy that they are using a free Zoom version…how ’bout live streaming thru Youtube or whatever and get the questions from the comments questions

I suggest that residents get this device. And wear it when outdoors. I got one of these. This directly connects to 911 and it has a GPS to know where you are.

  7. West Philly Says:

This really a shame. Who’s to blame? No not poverty. No not the police. Obviously the individual first and foremost who probably have multiple arrests and shouldn’t have been on the streets. You still want to defund them. Anyone with a brain saw this coming for Krasner elected. Ah, but he is progressive. Maybe time for a carry permit!

  8. A.D. Says:

The trumpy myth of the armed vigilante reached its low point on January 6th. “Getting tough on crime” has long been a code for anti-Black racism. Time to move on.

  9. West Philly Says:

@ A.D. I’m beginning to think there is something to TDS. Crime is crime. Someone said something somewhere about judging by character not by color of skin. You know the thing. White, black, whatever. In this case most likely black thugs. If they were white they would still be thugs like the ones on Jan. 6. Stop repeating slogans and start thinking for yourself.

  10. A.D. Says:

The demonization of BLM and “Antifa” is on the way out. It couldn’t be clearer that this was all a trojan horse for White Nationalism, which divides ordinary people, when instead we should be much more united.

  11. West Philly Says:

@ A.D Agreed. We need to be more united without uniformity. Hopefully BLM and Antifa are on the way out. They demonized themselves. Didn’t need help. Insurrection continues in Portland. They don’t want change. They want revenge. Nothing satisfies anarchists but total chaos and disorder. Nothing deals better with them than law and order.

  12. A.D. Says:

For all those who died needlessly of Covid, due to the dissemination of misinformation and the mishandling of the crisis. To all our migrants sisters and brothers locked up under cruel conditions, due to racist scapegoating. To all the victims of neo-fascist violence, approved and encouraged from on high. To Mother Earth, despoiled by global warming denial, greedy extractivism and business as usual. To all those who were fooled and used by misinformation, disinformation and the worst sorts of trickery.

We can do better, we will do better, we must do better.
