Philadelphia expands COVID vaccine eligibility to all adults

April 16, 2021

The city has expanded COVID vaccine eligibility to all adults (age 16 and older) today, which is three days earlier than the previously announced date (April 19). Public Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley made the announcement this afternoon and the new eligibility is effective immediately.

Multiple vaccination sites around the city have reported appointment vacancies, according to Farley. People over the age of 65 are still strongly encouraged to get vaccinated as one of the most vulnerable groups.

The FEMA-run mass vaccination clinic in Center City is now accepting walk-ups (read more here). Another walk-up vaccine clinic will be held in West Philadelphia at the University of the Sciences on Thursday, April 22. Go here for more information.

As of today, nearly 460,000 Philadelphia residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and over 309,000 residents (19.6 percent of the city population) have been fully vaccinated.
