As the city is preparing to lift all COVID-related capacity restrictions on June 11, check out updates on these great outdoor events, all held in Clark Park at 43rd and Chester:
The next Uhuru Flea Market will be held on Saturday, June 12. It is an all-day (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) African marketplace featuring dozens of vendors showcasing a wide range of handmade goods, crafts, housewares, food, and more. Volunteers are always needed for this event, held monthly from May to October and vendor spaces are available. The Uhuru Flea Market is an economic development project of the African People’s Education and Defense Fund (APEDF). Shakespeare in Clark Park is bringing back its outdoor summer productions in the “Bowl”. From July 28 through August 1, the company will present Pericles, Prince of Tyre. Shows will be held at 7 p.m. each night and feature a troupe of tumbling circus performers! It has been announced that registration will be required for this year’s shows. Stay tuned for more information/updates.
Movies in Clark Park will return to the park in August 2021. The University City District will present four weeks of free movies every Friday night (if the weather permits), with a rain date of Friday, Sept. 17. Here’s the schedule for this year:
August 6: Black Panther
August 13: A League of Their Own
August 20: The Iron Giant
August 27: Concrete Cowboy
September 17: Rain date (if necessary)
