Construction of an addition to the Garden Court Plaza, located at 4701 Pine St., has begun. The work is currently taking place at the back of the building on 47th Street between Pine and Spruce, which will be the primary access to the construction site, according to the Garden Court Community Association. The sidewalk on the west side of the whole block is closed due to the construction.
As a reminder, the plan includes the construction of a six-story, 220-unit addition above the Plaza’s parking garage (see rendering below).
Another big construction project, of a 13-story apartment building, is expected to begin later this year next to this site – on the 4700 block of Spruce Street.

And here we go with more faux “luxury” overpriced stacked like sardines building. The community and neighborhood is being completely destroyed, good long time residents pushed out as prices continue to climb. Corporate greed, egged on by Penn and Drexel strong arming everyone except who they deem worthy out. To where?

Great to see new lead and asbestos free apartment buildings going up. The architectural character of this block has been defined by the 13 story GC building at for more than 80 years and it’s great to see more buildings like it going up. High density infill development is one the most effective tools that cities have to reduce their per-capita GHG emissions and we should be allowing these types of buildings all over the city!

Funny that Clarence Siegel, the original developer of this area, puposedly included mansions, houses and apartments to suit all comers.
“Siegel’s “Garden Court” development had three components: high-rise luxury apartments on its northern edge (Garden Court Apartments and Garden Court Plaza), a varied selection of semi-attached and attached dwellings its core, and several almost mansion-sized detached homes”
