It seems like all 10 of Adrienne Williams’ fingers are green; not just her thumb.
Williams has turned her passion for plants, community and self-care into Freebird Greenery, which will officially open this Saturday at 4711 Pine St. The ground floor storefront in the Garden Court Plaza building includes a variety of sizes and species of house plants, pots and even a locally made “propagation wall,” for starting plant cuttings.
“I really wanted a space that felt like community,” Williams said. “I thought, where do I like to spend time? What environment do I find peaceful?,” Williams said. “Plants are a big part of that for me.” The shop’s vibe fits Williams’ “plant care as self-care” philosophy.
The space includes cushiony spots to sit (and maybe enjoy a coffee from Reanimator, a couple of doors down) and talk or learn about plants while you shop and a potting station so you can buy a plant and a pot (or bring your own pot) and have it repotted on the spot.
Williams said that she plans to offer classes (free and paid) in the future. Freebird Greenery will feature a free baby massage circle next week (yes, she is also a licensed massage therapist) and is planning a reading with local author and dietitian Stacey Woodson and her daughter Paige, who co-wrote the book Grow. Eat. Repeat.: A Love Letter to Black-Eyed Peas.
Saturday’s grand opening (they soft opened earlier last week) will include some giveaways and run from Noon to 4 p.m. Oh, and there’s a good chance that you can meet Williams’ adorable infant son, Drew, who she calls her “quality control manager.”
