UPDATE (3/11/2023): Ice Cave has reopened under new ownership. More details are coming soon.

(2/16/2023): The local favorite, Ice Cave dessert shop, is closing after more than six years of operation.

The family-owned business opened its first shop serving Taiwanese shaved ice treats in 2016 at 4507 Baltimore Ave., and then moved across the street to 4520 Baltimore in 2020. Ice Cave received a lot of support from the community during the move and was able to survive through the COVID pandemic.

The reason for the shop closing is personal. The owners, Po Chang and Jessica Wang, are moving away from Philadelphia and want to spend more time together as a family, which has been very difficult while running the business. Here’s a part of the message posted on Ice Cave’s Facebook page by Chang:

“I spent one-third of my life (more than 12 years) with this awesome city, Philadelphia. I got married with my lovely wife…, had a cute boy and started my first business here! I had so [many] beautiful memories with this great city. However, it’s time to say goodbye… We started Ice Cave in 2016 because we wanted to bring unique and special cold treats to the great Philadelphia area…We were very struggling to make this decision, close Ice Cave permanently! Thank you everyone for all your love and support for these 6+ years!”

The last day for the shop will be Sunday, Feb. 19. Customers are encouraged to redeem their gift cards and punch cards as quick as possible. And everything is 50 percent off till Ice Cave officially closes.
