October is here and we’re happy to share some interesting and spooky events for adults and children alike happening in the neighborhood. Here’s what will go down at the historic Woodlands cemetery and mansion, Penn Museum, Bartram’s Garden, local libraries, and more locations.

Nature Nights: Raptor Night
Thu, Oct. 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Explore The Woodlands after dark and learn about the hawks, owls and other raptors who live there. Meet live birds with Courtney Douds, aka Raptor Jawns, and discover some of the mysteries of the urban wildlife that calls The Woodlands home. Fri, Oct. 13, 6-8 p.m.
Experience The Woodlands after dark on Friday, Oct. 13! BYO chairs or blankets, picnics, and beverages, warm up by a fire pit and wander the historic Hamilton Core of The Woodlands by moonlight. The event will feature a spooky outdoor concert by the Philadelphia Viola Quartet at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are free for members and $10 for nonmembers. Pre-registration is required (click here).

Day of the Dead (Día de Los Muertos)
Sat, Oct. 21, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
The 12th annual CultureFest! Día de los Muertos celebration at the Penn Museum will showcase Mexico’s vibrant traditions. Observed in Latino communities around the world, Día de los Muertos traces its roots back 3,000 years to pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, blending Indigenous Mexican beliefs with the Catholic celebrations of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. The all-day festival includes an artisan market, make-and-take activities, and live performances. Go here for more details.

UPDATED: Curio (Halloween) Prom
New date: Sat, Oct. 21, 7:30-11 p.m.
Curio’s second annual Curio Prom Fundraiser is back and better than ever! Join Curio for a memorable night of music and dancing with delicious food and drink, two drink tickets included. Spooky Clean-up

Join Friends of Malcolm X Park for a spooky clean-up featuring trick or treat, crafty creations, plus clean and green (all cleaning supplies will be provided). Costumes are encouraged. More info is available here.
