It looks like the Penn-owned space at 40th & Walnut left vacant after Marathon Grill and MarBar closed last May won’t stay empty for too long. Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar is set to open its doors at this location in June 2012, as The Daily Pennsylvanian reports.
This will be the second location for Harvest. The first original is in Glen Mills.
The restaurant offers a farm-fresh menu with the ingredients coming from over 75 local and sustainable farms. The menu will change according to the seasons. The restaurant will have an “upscale-casual” atmosphere with a wine bar on the second level. It sounds like it will serve a similar clientele as its predecessor. Has anyone been to the original Harvest Seasonal in Glen Mills?

We have family out that way who rave about the restaurant and say it’s child-friendly as well. We are excited!

I went a few weeks ago. On the plus side, the food is locally sourced and the portions are intentionally smaller-which is fantastic. Each entree are fewer than 500 calories.
However, I had roast chicken and mashed potatoes. They tasted funny, as in, the chef put something unusual and unpleasant in the potatoes. Not sure what it was, but it was odd and not very good. I’m an adventurous eater, but it seemed like the chef’s palate was off.
It all comes down to the chef, and the night I was there, it was thumbs down.

Katie, I wonder if they tasted funny because they were made low-fat. Small low-calorie portions are not a plus for me – that just means higher prices!

I’ve never eaten at the one in Glen Mills but heard good things and looking at their menu online looks good to me. Anything with a kid’s menu besides in the area gets me excited! Also, local food = supporting local farms, so another plus, and finally avg entree looks to be about 20 bucks about the same as City Tap House but with a kid menu! I say yay!

What place isn’t “kid friendly” around here? Last month some dude had his toddler AT THE BAR at Tap House. In the dining area at 44 and Tap house is one thing, but bellied up on a barstool during happy hour?? Come on.
