Dear Department of Parks and Recreation,
So it has been seriously hot over the last couple of weeks. You already know this. We hear it is going to be just as hot for another week. Here’s the problem: We have a great drinking fountain in Clark Park that is right next to the basketball courts and playground. We would love to use it because, as you probably know, playing basketball when it is 95 degrees out makes you very thirsty. But the fountain doesn’t work. Could you please, please fix it?
Sincerely,
The Kids of Clark Park
(This letter represents views we heard expressed in Clark Park by kids young and old who want their fountain fixed.)

I’ll contact PPR about the broken fountain. In the meantime, the fountain at the shed is working. (I fixed _that_ one myself the other day.)

Thanks for posting. We (Friends of Clark Park) have been in touch with Parks & Rec. about this previously, but I will forward this link along. Hopefully this can be prioritized, as the basketball court is still seeing heavy use despite the heat.

Maybe Parks and Rec will leave a cute little sign asking the ‘The Kids of Clark Park’ to stop leaving dozens of gatorade bottles and fritos bags all over the ground every day.

good logic thomas m! litter on the bball court delegitimizes their right to a water fountain.

I agree Thomas M! Litter on the basketball court is definitely a good reason for people of all ages to be denied the water fountain their taxes pay for. NOT.
Here’s a thought: if there was a working water fountain, maybe people wouldn’t show up with water packaged in disposable plastic, which often gets left around or spills out of the trashcans.
I’m gonna call pars and rec again today.

How about while they fix the fountain they drop off an extra trash can or two- since they always seem to be overflowing? GENIUS!

Truly @ the extra trashcans.
How often do they collect the trash there?

I found out why the fountain doesn’t work: the water lines were vandalized. the city’s going to have to dig up the concrete to fix ’em. Hopefully, it’ll be fixed by next week.
