The Philly Fringe festival is back this month with its usual wide array of performances and venues. Many of the programs will take place in West Philadelphia. • Monsters: A Workshop and Happening on Sept 16, 3 pm at the Penn Museum. Participants will work with artist Douglas Repetto to make a herd of moving tables that will be set free among the artifacts.

• Le Mirage/Dead City Philly by DysFUNctional Theater. Sept 10 and 11, 8 pm at the Rotunda. A 1892 novella reimagined as a rock opera and set in modern day Philadelphia. Debuted at the Fringe festival in 2011 and back by popular demand.

• The Legend of Nahia by Duende Musical. Sept 7, 8, 12, and 15, 7 pm at the Calvary Center, 801 South 48th St. A story set in an imaginary town in Spain about a a female survivor of sexual assault healing through music, art, story telling, and dance.

• You Don’t Say by Tangle Arts Movement, Sept 13, 14, and 15 at 8 pm with a special show at 3 pm. Although the venue, Philadelphia Soundstages (1600 N. 5th St), is not in West Philly, neighbors are probably familiar with the group’s outdoor show in Clark Park, Tiny Circus. Their Fringe show purports to include a rope, trapeze, and a dinner table as the performers explore relationships and miscommunication all while defying gravity.

• Philly Song Shuffle Sept. 14 at 7 pm, World Cafe Live. 55 Artists, one stage. Sounds like mayhem.

• Crossing Imaginary Lines: A Musical Yoga Journey on Sept 14 at 7:30 pm, Studio 34. Yoga teacher and singer/songwriter Michal Waldfogel guides the audience through an evening of live acoustic music, promising the explore and dissolve the limitations of the body and life.

• The Thief of Mirrors and Looking for Love in the Hall, presented by Daniel Barrow Sept 14 at 7 pm, International House. Thief of Mirrors is described as an “experimental moving picture experience” that uses voice, images, and projection. Looking for Love in the Hall of Mirrors uses an overhead projector for manual animation, accompanied by live monologue and a soundtrack.

• The Sao Paolo Underground at Crossroads Music on Sept 19 at 7:30 pm, Calvary Center. Time Out describes the Sao Paolo Underground as a, “cool blue cornet over a spellbinding collage of saturated textures, syncopated rhythms, and sundry electronics.”

• Monument by the Drexel Players, Sept 13-16 at varying times at The Sanctuary at the Rotunda. The performance is described as an “interactive theatrical journey” about a hole in the sky and an architect who attempts to build a structure that will outlast civilization.

• Gamers, World Cafe Live, see website for dates and times. This film promises to take viewers into the private world of gaming and answer all of their questions.

• Lysistrata by Theater Cooperative and Naked Feet Productions, Sept 20-22 at 8 pm, The Rotunda. An adaptation of Aristophanes’ classic play on love, sex, and war.

• Sephro: The Vengeance by the Fantasy Weavers, Sept 8 at 7 pm, Sept 9 at 3 pm, The Rotunda. A story of Vengeance and love and a battle against evil.
