Another attempted robbery at machete point tonight on my block, 4800 Regent St. This time two men with ski masks, one with a machete & one with a baseball bat. They grabbed the man they tried to rob & acted menacing, but he yelled & lots of people (first & loudest his girlfriend) came out yelling & they ran away without getting anything. They wanted the man’s backpack. No one was hurt. This was about 8:30 pm, February 9th.

There were two similar robberies/attempted robbery in November 2010, in the 800 Block of S. St. Bernard and on the 4800 Warrington Ave. Both victims were exchange students who were staying at my house. On student was robbed at gun point after getting out of a cab in front of the house; the other student was walking home around 8:00 p.m., when two young men appeared to be sitting on house steps and three other young men who came from between two parked cars. This particular young man managed to out run the five men, but was quite shaken and moved out the next day. I was wondering whether these are the same men– targeting young college students with backpacks, cell phone, laptops, etc.?

    Thank you for this information.
