The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has recently opened a new, state-of-the-art pediatric care center (Karabots Primary Care Center) at the corner of 48th and Market. The center held its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday. The 52,000-square-foot center will offer pediatric care and community programs to West Philly children and families (the centers at 39th and Chestnut Sts. and 3550 Market St. are moving to the Karabots Center).
The Karabots Center was established with a $7.5 million gift from Nicholas and Athena Karabots and the Karabots Foundation of Fort Washington, Pa. The two-story building contains 56 child-friendly examination rooms, rooms for radiology, hearing and vision testing, and a lab. The facility also houses community programs offered by Children’s Hospital, such as Early Head Start, Community Asthma Prevention Program, domestic violence education, and the Homeless Health Initiative. The Center plans to accommodate over 64,000 outpatient visits annually.

I drive by this on the way to work everyday, and it really is a beautiful facility. Hopefully this (and the new police headquarters) will give some much needed rejuvenation to the area.

So, if your appts are currently at 3550 Market they will now be at 48th and Market? There has probably been communication from them about this but mail from CHOP is something that I haven’t been receiving since I moved.
It looks pretty nice.

Kim not all of the patients at 3550 will be here. Those at St. Leonard’s Court will be here and had started in early January. I was told from high up on the CHOP ladder that some but not all doctors from 3550 will move to this center. I know that my Ped. is staying put, I even had an appt at 3550 today. However, even if you don’t have an appt. it’s a great building to visit. I had a tour in January and was at the ceremony yesterday. It’s a beautiful building with all the CHOP effects.

Wow, I am pretty surprised they merged the practices given the difference in their philosophies. (Personally, as a client of both at different times, I hope they retain the working parent-friendly ethos of St. Leonard’s Court). Love the building!

We were there for a sick appointment Wednesday morning. The waiting area was so much fun my son was upset that they took us within minutes if our arrival. We were in and out in 30 minutes
