Thursday, Sept 5

• Free events and art installations at Clark Park’s Farmers’ Market (43rd & Baltimore), 3-7 p.m. For more information click here.

Friday, Sept 6

• The 2013 Fringe Festival kicks off at various locations around the city. For more information on the festival events in West Philly, check our story here.
• Free performance by Man Man at The Porch at 30th Street Station (30th & Market), noon. Presented by WXPN, this very special outdoor “Free At Noon” concert will feature Philadelphia-based Man Man, who come celebrating the September 10th release of On Oni Pond, a compelling mash-up of Fear Of Music-era Talking Heads, classic soul, psychedelia, hip-hop, and 50’s rock and roll.
• Curio Theatre presents The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Clark Park “B” (43rd & Chester, in the bowl), 7:30 p.m., Free. Curio brings the unforgettable legend of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman to Clark Park for three nights, beginning Friday. There will be live music, cool sound effects and a real campfire. Bring a lawn chair/blanket/food/wine and prepare to be scared!
  

Saturday, Sept 7

• VIX Emporium brings more than 70 local artisans and craftspeople to The Woodlands (40th & Woodland) for the Fall edition of Go West! Craft Fest. 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Go West! Craft Fest is West Philadelphia’s biggest craft event with an amazing group of crafters presenting their creations, like jewelry, wearables, ceramics, home wares, children’s items, natural bath & body products, stationery, hand knits and more. The event also brings food vendors and activities for kids and includes a bunch of local performers throughout the day. At this Go West! Craft Fest edition, children’s activities and craft projects are presented by University City Arts League, Neighborhood Bike Works and West Philly Co-op Preschool. • 33rd Annual Hamilton Street Porch Sale, along Hamilton Street from 34th St. to 38th St, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  This four block long sidewalk sale takes place in Powelton Village.  The sale started out as a few people having a yard sale on their front porches and has grown over the years with over 100 vendors participating in the event – it includes a mix of long time residents and local vendors.  There will be a wide mix of items for sale including: housewares, bookcases, furniture, pottery, clothes, family treasures, books, antiques, plants, food, jewelry, musical instruments, electronics, and more.
• Free events, performances and art installations at the Clark Park and Overbrook farmers’ markets, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. More info is available here.
• Open House at University City Arts League (4226 Spruce St.). Everyone is invited to stop by UCAL on Saturday, between 1 and 3 p.m., to learn more about classes offered this Fall (there will be some 40 classes for all age groups offered, including pottery, yoga, knitting, graphic design and more). • ACHIEVEability presents “The State of Our Community” event, Boys’ Latin Charter School (55th & Cedar), 12-2 p.m. Come listen and share your ideas, questions, and concerns with some of West Philadelphia’s top civic and community leaders. You’ll get a chance to discuss the important changes happening in your backyard in regard to zoning, real estate development and incoming businesses entering your community. Featured guests include Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, Joshua Cohen (Special Assistant to the Majority Leader Councilman Curtis Jones), State Representative James Roebuck, Jr., State Representative Ronald Waters, and Block Captain Julia Chinn.In honor of “Back-to-School Season”, ACHIEVEability will be giving away backpacks filled with school supplies on a “first come, first serve” basis to children in attendance. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive a backpack.

Sunday, Sept 8

•  4th Annual Philadelphia Honey Festival, Bartram’s Garden (54th St. & Lindbergh Blvd., accessible by the #36 trolley), 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Head to Bartram’s Garden this Sunday for one of the sweetest events in Philly — the 4th annual Philadelphia HoneyFestival! The event will feature a swarm of great activities — open hive talks with local beekeepers, the children’s Be-A-Bee Parade and science station, honey tastings, beer brewing demos, film screenings, Schuylkill River cruises, gourmet food trucks and more! Plus, pick up some beautiful native plants during the fall plant sale to help attract pollinators to your home garden and chat with horticultural experts for garden planning advice and tips.The mission of the Philadelphia Honey Festival is to raise awareness about the importance of honey bees to our environment, our food supply and our economy, and to promote urban beekeeping and gardening.
