This afternoon, some West Philly Local readers reported to us that there was no water service around S. 45th and Baltimore/Springfield. We contacted Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) for details but found out that no one had reported the problem to them yet. When there’s a disruption in water service, please make sure to call Water Emergency Hotline at: 215-685-6300 and provide your exact address so that PWD can dispatch their crew, PWD spokesperson Laura Copeland told West Philly Local.
Since this is the season of water main breaks and frozen pipes PWD would appreciate if residents let them know without delay if there’s a problem with water.
By the way, the water service at 45th and Baltimore was restored at around 3 p.m.

do folks know what to do when the water comes back on? i just went through this and didn’t know. not sure i know now but seems like once the water is on you would want to run the cold water through the tub until it runs clean. mine was brown and full of dirt when it came on. then once the water is clean then run faucets that have aerator screens. probably best to remove them but if the water is running clean through the tub then the screens should stay pretty clear. mine got junk in them cause everything was on when the water came back on.
also i don’t know much about hot water heater but if you turn on the hot then you end up pulling that dirty water into your water heater right? so don’t run that until you need it and you and the neighbors have had a chance to clean out the muck from the mains. make since?
