Each year, the Fringe Festival brings socially-set performances and presentations by innovative artists to various city’s neighborhoods and venues. This year, the festival, presented by Fringe Arts, will take place Sept. 5 – 22 and will feature music, dance, theater, spoken word and circus performances, and visual art installations (some of them free).

Check out below the guide of the Fringe Festival events in West Philadelphia. West Philly venues for the festival include The Rotunda, The Porch at 30th Street Station, University of Pennsylvania, St. Francis de Sales Parish and more. By the way, West Philly based circus-theater company Tangle Movement Arts will present their newest full-length show, Loop, at the festival. Loop premieres on Thursday, Sept 18 at 8 p.m., Friday, Sept 19 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, Sept 20 at 3 and 8 p.m. at Philadelphia Soundstage (1600 N. 5th St.). BalletX – The Porch at 30th Street Station

Saturday, Sept 6, 5:00 p.m.

BalletX, Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet, performs beside 30th Street Station against the backdrop of the Philadelphia skyline. Presented by University City District as part of its innovative cultural programming at The Porch. Free and open to the public.

Sephro: Earth’s Revenge by Fantasy Weavers – The Rotunda (40th and Walnut)

Snyder v. Phelps, the musical by Underbite Theatre Company – The Rotunda (40th and Walnut)

Alternative Theatre Festival by iNtuitons Experimental Theatre – Platt Student Performing Arts House (37th and Spruce)

Mount Airy Home Companion by Saint Mad – The Rotunda (40th and Walnut)

Thursday, Sept 18 & Friday, Sept 19, 8 p.m.

This comedy and song in a radio-style show by Mount Airy’s trumpet-euphonium-guitar-keyboard band is inspired by the legendary Prairie Home Companion. Fresh from two years of sold-out performances in Northwest Philly. $18. Tickets are available here.

Splice by Leah Stein Dance Company – Leonard Pearlstein Gallery (3401 Filbert Street)

LSDC presents Splice, a new site-specific performance in collaboration with Jeremy Holme’s wood sculpture installation at Drexel’s Pearlstein Gallery. Poe-a-thon by Night Hawks – The Rotunda (40th and Walnut)

Poe-a-thon is an experimental audio-visual interpretation of short Edgar Allan Poe poems, with live music (piano, harp, flute) by Ross Lipton. Inspired by Poe, master of the “grotesque” and “humoresque.” $10. Tickets are available here.
