  1. John Woolsey Says:

We lived in the house from 1972 to 1982, very happily, I might add. Our kids were born there and spend their early years there. When we bought the house it was livable, but very shabby. I restored all the woodwork by hand (stripping old varnish, applying Danish oil finish) including three elaborate mantle pieces. We created a beautiful new kitchen and restored the original baths. We created a beautiful perennial and vegetable garden in the back yard, and had many friends on the street, all of whom have since moved but who remain very good friends. When our son, Peter, the chef/proprietor of Bistrot La Minette in Queen Village, moved back to Philly after studying pastry at Le Codon Blue in Paris, by chance he rented an apartment in a building right across the street. Our other son’s family moved to UC several years ago from Brooklyn, for the Penn-Alexander School. Our years on Cedar Avenue, and University City were really seminal years for our family. I’m really saddened by the fire.
