Thanksgiving events, closings, schedule changes (updated)

HappyThanksgivingHere’s some useful info for those who are celebrating Thanksgiving in the neighborhood. Also, if you’re looking for something to do today, there will be Holiday Tree Lighting with hot cocoa and live music in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art beginning at 5 p.m. On Friday morning, Nov. 27, special “Santa Express” trains will operate (see more details below).

Public schools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27.
Post offices will be closed, and there will be no mail delivery on Thursday.
• Trash/recycling collections will be one day behind schedule starting Thursday for the rest of the week.
Public libraries will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and remain closed through Thursday, Nov. 26. 

 

Thanksgiving Day Parade on the Parkway

Thanksgiving Day Parade kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at 20th and Market Streets and continues along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway running through the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Logan Square, Center City West, and Rittenhouse Square neighborhoods. The parade ends around 12 noon.

 

SEPTA Schedule Changes

Thursday, Nov. 26

All SEPTA services including Regional Rail will operate on a Sunday/Holiday Schedule

Friday, Nov. 27

• City Transit, Suburban Buses, Trolleys and the Norristown High Speed Line will operate on a modified weekday schedule
• Regional Rail Trains will operate on a normal weekday schedule
• Special “Santa Express” trains operate Friday morning. Details: www.septa.org/events/santa.html

Saturday, Nov. 28 & Sunday, Nov. 29

All SEPTA Services operate on normal weekend schedules

 

Thanksgiving Hours at Assorted Businesses (stay tuned for updates)

Cafes/restaurants:

• The Green Line Cafe: Wednesday, Nov. 25: The Locust St. and 40th St. locations close at 6 p.m. The Powelton Ave. location closes at 3 p.m. The Baltimore Ave. location will also close early (please call the shop). Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27: All shops are closed.
• Renata’s Kitchen (46th and Baltimore): Closed on Thursday; will re-open on Friday for Black Friday brunch.
• The Gold Standard Cafe (48th and Baltimore): Thursday, Nov. 26: Closed. Friday, Nov. 27: 6 a.m.- 4 p.m.
• Coffee Market (45th and Pine): Thursday, Nov. 26: 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.
• Milk and Honey Market (45th and Baltimore): Thursday, Nov. 26 & Saturday, Nov. 28: Closed; Friday, Nov. 27: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• The Farmacy (45th and Spruce): Closed through Wednesday, Dec. 2.
• Local 44 (44th and Spruce): Thursday, Nov. 26: Closed; Re-opens for brunch on Friday.
• Honest Tom’s Taco Shop (44th and Spruce): Closed on Thursday and Friday; reopens on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.

Stores (grocery/liquor):

• Mariposa Food Coop (49th and Baltimore): Thursday, Nov. 26: 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Open regular hours on Wednesday and Friday.
• Supreme Shop-n-Bag (43rd and Walnut): Thursday, Nov. 26: Closes at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
• The Fresh Grocer: Open 24 hours
• Fine Wine & Good Spirits (43rd and Chestnut; 49th and Baltimore): Closed on Thursday, Nov. 26. Open regular hours on Wednesday and Friday (until 9 p.m.).

Farmers’ Markets:

Farmers’ Markets will be open on Wednesday, Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving shopping:

• Clark Park Farmers’ Market (43rd and Baltimore): 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• 52nd and Haverford: 1 – 5 p.m.
• 58th and Chester: 1:30 – 5 p.m.
