West Philly just got another Asian fusion restaurant, Daleng, and this one is family-owned and operated. The restaurant opened last weekend at 47th and Walnut, down the street from West Lofts. It serves classic and new dishes from across the continent with protein options of beef, chicken, pork, and fish, along with vegetarian choices.

The menu features Thai dishes such as spicy Tom Yum chicken and Pad Thai, Korean Tang Tang chicken, Cambodian beef Kroeung Stir Fry, Singaporean Mei Fun, and Vietnamese Banh Mi. Vegetarian offerings include eggplant veggie curry, pad thai with tofu, and an assortment of fried rices.

Beverage offerings currently stand at bubble tea, Vietnamese iced tea, Hong Kong milk tea and a variety of fruit smoothies. According to a sign posted in the window, the restaurant has applied for a permit to serve alcoholic beverages such as liquor, beer, and wine. 

One item that stands out, however, is the classic cheesesteak hoagie Italian roll. It seems a little out of place. This could have really been the restaurant’s chance to take a fresh spin on a classic Philly favorite (a la vegan food truck Kung Fu Hoagies), but they decided to keep it simple.

Server John Su said, “We decided that maybe not everyone wants Asian food, some people might want to switch it up here and there.” Our guess is that this item is for “that one friend” who might not be a fan of the cuisine yet still wants to grab a bite to eat with the rest of the group.

A potential menu change, according to Su, will be the addition of a soup item by winter.

The restaurant is open daily from 10:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. with the exception of Sundays, with hours between 5-10 p.m. (note: business hours have changed from hours currently posted on the restaurant’s social media).

It seems that the restaurant owner, Ngeim Hui Tang, has also invested in the neighborhood. Tang’s name is also listed as the current property owner according to the City of Philadelphia’s property records.
