Two adjacent Cedar Park businesses, Little Baby’s Ice Cream and The Bar(n), have closed in the past month or so. Little Baby’s, the artisan scoop shop known for its unusual flavors, closed its doors at 4903 Catharine St. for good at the end of November after more than six years of operation. The Philadelphia-based company went out of business, according to reports. The owners posted the following message on their Instagram page in November:
“The era of Little Baby’s Ice Cream has come and gone. While our physical manifestation will be no more for this world, our spirit will live on in the hearts, minds and mouth-memories of YOU, the True and Impassioned Ice Cream Fans.”
As for The Bar(n), the eclectic bar at the corner of 49th and Catharine, which was named as one of The Best of Philly in 2018 by The Philadelphia Magazine, closed after a number of violations, including electric hazard, were found by an L & I inspection in late November. But, as encouraging news, we spotted some work going on at the location in the past week. We’ll keep you posted.

It’s always sad to hear that businesses close and employees lose jobs. Over the last few years I often walked by those businesses. I peaked in once at Little Baby’s and was shocked at the prices for ice cream. As for the Bar(n) it really needed more outside renovation. It looked too much like the previous place which was a dive. Maybe the Bar(n) wasn’t a dive. But it looked like one from the outside and given the people hanging outside. As for the name-never a fan. Much prefer Dock Street.
