There will be no recycling collections in the city from Wednesday, Aug. 5 through Friday, Aug. 7, the Streets Department announced on Saturday. If these days are your trash/recycling collection days, please hold on to your recyclables until next week.
The Department is still trying to catch up to a regular trash and recycling collection schedule after going off schedule in July, with delays lasting up to 4 days due to shortage of staff and a larger amount of trash and recycling materials last month. While trash collection remains a priority for the Department, recycling collections may still be delayed by several days or even suspended. The city is also currently monitoring a severe weather storm forecast expected to cause high winds and heavy down pours from Hurricane Isaias. Severe weather can cause major delays with trash and recycling collections as it happened in July because of tropical storm Fay.
As of Saturday, Aug. 1, trash collection in the city was back on a regular schedule, according to Streets Commissioner, Carlton Williams. This week, residents can place trash curbside on their regular collection day but there may be delays as the Department continues to balance increased tonnage and staff shortages.

In SouthWest Cedar Park, Streets Department has STILL not picked up recycling that was put out 2 weeks ago. They can say they are not picking up recycling this week but I’m hedging my bets and putting at least half of it in trash bags so it gets picked up one way or another. Absolutely disgraceful.

PLEASE, when putting out recyclables and trash, remember that the santitation workers are HUMAN. Put things into bins, boxes and bags for easy pick up. Stack neatly for easy retrieval. THINK: is it easy for someone to pick this up and throw into truck? If not, repackage it. Dont just throw your garbage in piles! Be kind….
–PLASTIC BAGS should NOT go in recycling bins. They are NOT recyclable and a human worker is required to pick through the refuse–dangerous and gross!
–Cardboard is (often) not recyclable if it gets WET—so keep your cardboard inside until the AM of pickup–or COVER your bin (i use a large piece of wood).
DO NOT try to “aspirationally” recycle things. Just because we wish things were recyclable–most things arent. example: dont put a plastic toy in the recycling bin. Someone just has to hand-sort it out later. Check websites for lists of what IS recyclable.
This is tough time for everyone…do your part to help.

I understand that the streets department has a shortage of workers and a lot to catch up on but the trash and recycling has been gathering on the sidewalks for weeks with no sign of trash OR recycling trucks. You need to hire more people!

You noticed that too?
