Indie-Life’s holiday shopping campaign supports small and minority businesses

December 3, 2020

If you haven’t had a chance to participate in Indie-Life’s holiday shopping campaign that supports small and minority businesses there’s still time to do it through this Sunday. Indie-Life, a West Philly based creative agency and co-working/event space, launched the 10-day campaign, called “Black Friday Is Cancelled” (BFIC) on November 27th.

“Our BFIC campaign is solidly built on three pillars: Shop small and buy local, invest in your community, and invest in yourself,” said Rasheed Abdellah, a local entrepreneur and Indie-Life founder.

The campaign has already garnered endorsements and praise from Philadelphia’s elected officials like State Senator Anthony Williams, State Representative Rick Krajewski, and Councilmember Jamie Gauthier among others.

Here’s how the campaign works:

Now through Sunday, Dec. 6, participants have a chance to win one of Indie-Life’s “Goodie Bags” (each worth $250) filled with products and service vouchers from indie-businesses and makers.

There are three ways to participate in the campaign:

• Buy a product or service at a small local business (brick-and-mortar or online store).

• Volunteer for at least two hours or donate to any nonprofit in the City of Philadelphia.

• Promote your favorite independent Philly business or artist with a quick selfie video telling the world why you love them.

Then post the proof of your shopping/work or your video and tag @indielifemedia. Use the following hashtags: #BFICGoodieBag #ShopSmall #IBWknd20 #IndieLife. Those without social media can send an email to grow@indielifemedia.com with screenshots or photos of your receipt or community action commitment.

Indie-Life is highlighting specific businesses that are included in their Goodie Bags and would be happy if you try one of them during the holiday season. They currently have five goodie bags named after their co-curators or neighborhood. For example, the West Philly Goodie Bag is co-curated with Rep. Rick Krajewski, Councilmember Jamie Gauthier and the Centennial CDC. The bag includes Bodyrock Bootcamp classes, T-Shirts from acclaimed costume designer Mark Ruffin’s Black Dolls Matter, a Balinese gift offering basket and other goodies from the Silk Tent, vouchers / gift certificates for Brown Sugar Bakery and Star Fusion Restaurant.

Indie-Life has also just launched an originally produced web series “My Indie Workspace”. Featured local entrepreneurs include Emmy Award-winning costume designer and creator of Black Dolls Matter Mark Ruffin; musician, multimedia producer, and Boom Room Studios owner Gary Dann; and on-air personality and content creator Laiya St. Clair who are giving Indie-Life an exclusive look into their “Indie Workspaces.” For more information, go here.
