Philadelphia officials have lifted some COVID-19 restrictions re-imposed on local businesses and activities in November due to a spike in coronavirus cases in the city. The following types of businesses and activities can now resume operations (with COVID safety protocols), according to Mayor Jim Kenney’s announcement on Tuesday:

• Museums
• Gyms
• Casinos
• Outdoor sports
• Outdoor catered events
• In-person learning for high schools 

Other restrictions, including indoor dining at restaurants, will remain in place until at least January 15th.

Philadelphia officials have also provided an update on COVID-19 vaccine distribution in the city. As of Jan. 5, 31,550 first doses of the vaccines produced by Pfizer and Moderna were administered in the city. COVID-19 vaccinations began on Dec. 16 and those who were among the first ones to receive Pfizer vaccine are eligible to receive the 2nd dose this week.

So far the city has been administering COVID-19 vaccines to health care workers, according to Philadelphia Public Health Commissioner Thomas Farley. However, starting this week, CVS staff members will begin vaccinating residents at 22 local nursing homes.
