As of January 11th, 50,532 people in Philadelphia have received the first dose of the COVID vaccine and over 9,000 people have received the second, final dose. While the city is still prioritizing health care workers and residents and staff at nursing homes, who were outlined in the Phase 1A for vaccine distribution, the Department of Public Health has announced the next group who will begin receiving vaccinations soon.
Phase 1B includes people ages 75 and older and those with certain high-risk medical conditions; first responders; correctional officers and other workers in congregate care settings not included in Phase 1A; food and critical goods handlers and manufacturers; grocery store workers; childcare and education providers; public transit workers.
Vaccinations for the group outlined in Phase 1B are expected to begin at the end of this month, potentially the week of January 25th. The Philadelphia Fire Department announced earlier this week that they had already started vaccinating their workers.
People will be able to get vaccinated at hospitals, health clinics, on-site vaccination clinics in congregate settings, pharmacies, urgent care centers and mass vaccination clinics, like the one that opened last week at the Convention Center.
Following Phase 1B will be Phase 1C, which includes people ages 65-74; sanitation and utility workers; postal workers; construction workers; IT/communications/media workers; finance and bank workers; legal professions; transportation and logistics; public health & safety workers.
Philadelphia residents can now also pre-register for a COVID-19 vaccine through the COVIDReadi website. Those who register will be notified when they are eligible to receive the vaccine. Check out this article for more information.
