MYA History
Middle Years Alternative for the Arts and Humanities is a small public school that allows us to provide structure and individual attention to our student body.
MYA was established in 1974 as a small, alternative, academic program with a strong focus on the humanities.
The strength of our humanities program, the outstanding reputation of our faculty and alumni, enables us to attract a diverse group of students with a wide range of abilities.
Our rigorous academic coursework includes links to universities, museums, theaters, and corporate institutions in the area. Each year, MYA students participate in a rich variety of field trips, grants, and sponsored events that supplement classroom instruction and provide hands-on learning experiences. This emphasis gets academic results.
We offer all middle years sports at our building which include boys and girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls track, baseball, golf, soccer, and flag football.
We have an instrumental music program and a budding drumline. We have several community partnerships with SPARK, Junior Achievement, the Eagles(STEM), and Phillies(weather day), and a host of after school enrichment opportunities.
Our school was the recipient of $250,000 Elevate 215 Grant as 1 of 5 schools beating the odds and improving student achievement. Our staff boasts Nationally Board Certified Teachers, Lindback Teachers of the Year, Phillies Teachers of the Year, and other prominent awards.
