Join Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library staff for an evening with Philadelphia author and American diplomat, Aminata Sy, in conversation with award-winning journalist, Cherri Gregg.

Aminata Sy left Senegal in 2001, starting a new life in Philadelphia with the challenges of being a high school dropout who did not speak English. In Destined, Aminata shares her story of redemption, juggling motherhood, school, and work in pursuit of a better life for her family, leading to her current career as one of the few Senegalese Americans to serve as an American diplomat. By sharing her experiences and wisdom, Aminata inspires and urges individuals to challenge the impossible and chase their dreams.

Aminata Sy used to live in West Philadelphia. She and her husband started Le Dakar on Baltimore Avenue. With her local ties and global life experience, this promises to be a unique event.

A book signing and light refreshments will follow.
