Grand re-opening celebration held for newly renovated Kingsessing Library

April 25, 2025

The Kingsessing Library is officially open after a major renovation. A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Thursday afternoon and included City officials, Rebuild Philadelphia, The Free Library of Philadelphia, and community members.

The celebration marked the completion of the newly renovated library, an $8 million project made possible by the City’s Rebuild initiative, a historic investment of hundreds of millions of dollars in neighborhood parks, recreation centers, and libraries across Philadelphia.

The century-old Kingsessing Library has been updated with:

• New roof, windows, and doors
• Masonry restoration
• New plumbing, electric, mechanical, security, and fire alarm systems
• New lighting, interior finishes, and furniture
• A new staff break room and kitchen
• A new community classroom
• ADA improvements, including upgraded restrooms and a new elevator
• Outdoor enhancements, including a new fenced ADA accessible story circle, Community Garden area, and new trash/recycling receptacles and benches
• Indego bike station located on the library’s front plaza

The library is open daily except for Sunday. Check out the hours and more information here.
