The popular local theater company returns next week to perform Shakespeare with a musical twist. With music by Galt MacDermot and lyrics by John Guare, this 1971 Tony Award-winning, ground-breaking adaptation of the Bard’s sixteenth-century comedy is a fusion of danceable pop, stirring soul, electrifying rock, creative storytelling, and biting social commentary.
“This summer’s production is more than just entertainment,” said guest artistic director, Shamus. “It’s a powerful response to the rising tide of hate and discrimination against LGBTQ+ and other groups. Do you like to visit Clark Park and want to provide feedback? Friends of Clark Park (FoCP), a volunteer-run group behind the maintenance and improvements at the park, has released their annual survey on the state of the park.
It is a short survey that takes no more than 5 minutes to complete, but it is really important for FoCP to get feedback and set direction for the park each year. For example, the community feedback received last year was instrumental in advocating for the bathrooms (“Portland Loo“) which are being installed later this year.
