Community members have a chance to learn more about recent gunpoint robberies in the neighborhoods of Garden Court, Cedar Park and other parts of the University City area (see more info here) and receive safety tips at an emergency follow-up meeting with the 18th Police District. The meeting will be held via Zoom on Monday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m.

There has been an uptick in robberies at gunpoint and car jackings in the Cedar Park, Garden Court and Spruce Hill neighborhoods, according to police. Police have scheduled an emergency info meeting, which will be held via Zoom on Friday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. Robbery prevention tips will also be provided at the meeting.

A 30-year-old-man was shot multiple times and killed this afternoon on the 5200 block of Cedar Avenue, according to reports. The shooting took place shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to police. The man was shot at least three times – in the head, in the neck and in his left arm.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:59 p.m., according to police.
Police recovered a weapon on the scene. No arrests have been made as of this afternoon.

A 5-year-old boy was found unresponsive in a bathtub in an apartment on the 4800 block of Pine Street on Monday night, according to multiple reports. The boy was found by his father around 10 p.m. face down in the tub. He also had a cut on his neck, according to reports. He was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The boy’s 40-year-old mother was also found inside the apartment with cuts on her wrists, according to reports. She was taken to the hospital and was listed in stable condition. She was being evaluated by mental health experts on Tuesday. No charges have been filed yet.

Gun violence in the city has claimed another victim. A 27-year-old man was shot multiple times and killed on the 600 block of S. 52nd Street on Monday night. The shooting took place at around 8:45 p.m., according to police. The victim was transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:12 p.m.
No arrests have been made and no weapon was recovered.

Police are investigating a shooting at 43rd and Chestnut Streets that left a young man in critical condition. The shooting took place on Sunday night shortly before 8 p.m. The victim, a man in his mid-20s, was shot twice, in his neck and shoulder. He was transported by police to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.
No arrests have been made and no weapon was recovered.
