Here’s a list of places and holiday bazaars that sell Christmas trees and wreaths in West Philly and vicinity. If you want to make your own holiday wreath, there will be a free holiday wreath and centerpiece workshop this Saturday, at Walnut Street West Library, co-sponsored by the University City Garden Club (see flier below for more information).

Curtis and his crew are back in Cedar Park, selling trees at the triangle across from Dock Street at 50th and Baltimore. The bazaar is open daily from about 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

You can also check 52nd and Spruce and 39th and Lancaster.

Holiday wreaths, greens, decorations

UPDATE: The Workshop School is again offering Jawnaments and other ornaments for your Christmas tree. Last year, they sold out pretty quickly.

• Bartram’s Garden Holiday Greens Sale: Saturday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., 5400 Lindbergh Blvd. Shop for decorated and undecorated wreaths, centerpieces, fresh evergreens and more.

Every year, the Cedar Park Neighbors community association packs and distributes holiday food baskets for neighborhood families in need. The annual event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 19, and Cedar Park Neighbors needs your help. The baskets will be packed between 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Renewal Presbyterian Church, located on the corner of 47th and Cedar Ave. A few strong hands are also needed to assist with unloading the poultry truck at 7:30 a.m. Please email Michelle Lewis at mlewis1071-at-gmail.com if you are available to help out.

Forget about Black Friday. A great way to kick off your holiday shopping is by shopping locally on Small Business Saturday on November 28. Small Business Saturday was founded six years ago and has quickly become a great holiday tradition and one of the most important shopping days of the year.

We have a lot of great businesses in West Philly. From local gift and craft shops to book stores to small groceries to coffee shops and breweries, you can find unique holiday gifts and support your neighborhood tomorrow. Here’s some useful info for those who are celebrating Thanksgiving in the neighborhood. Also, if you’re looking for something to do today, there will be Holiday Tree Lighting with hot cocoa and live music in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art beginning at 5 p.m. On Friday morning, Nov. 27, special “Santa Express” trains will operate (see more details below).

• Public schools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27.
• Post offices will be closed, and there will be no mail delivery on Thursday.
• Trash/recycling collections will be one day behind schedule starting Thursday for the rest of the week.
• Public libraries will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and remain closed through Thursday, Nov. 26.  Continue Reading

The popular local dance group, Philly Thriller (Facebook page), which holds Michael Jackson inspired flash-mob performances on the streets of West Philly every Halloween, will be entertaining the crowds this year as well. We got in touch with the group director Rashida Holmes to see where folks can catch them this Saturday. According to Holmes, they’ll be at Clark Park (43rd and Baltimore) tomorrow from 5:30-6:45 p.m., so don’t miss their performances. For more Halloween events, go here.
